April
2004, things were not going too well for the Brown-Westwood-Martin's.
With mounting bills to pay and a lower than expected
turnout for his website design courses, Graham decided
to try 'shaking some trees' at a film night spondored
by The Afflicted Yard at Grosvenor Gallery in Kingston.
Although his role at the screening of City of God
was to plug in his LCD projector and make sure the
picture was nice and centered; Graham noticed that
there were more people gathered in one place than
he had ever seen in Portland, and he became excited.
Like
the Black Girls Rule party, things took a turn for
the worse when Graham got carried away with himself
and insisted on showing a series of homemade video
advertisements for his terrible website -Ammocity.com
(Ammunition for life!).
Sadly,
nobody cared (or watched) and apparently this was
the last straw that drove Graham Brown-Martin to conga-line
right over the edge. As he was to write four years
later later when recalling the humiliating affair:
'His
favourite film for the shows, Children of God [sic],
was very violent. It was about Brazilian children
growing up in the Rio ghetto. Rickards was supposed
to show some of my short the films [sic..remember...no
high school book learnin] during the event
but didn’t. It was very much his gig alone.
That pissed me off. (September
2008, The-Latest.com)
In
actuality, that wasn't really the case. Graham had
in fact been permitted to show his painfully bad website
'films'; its just that nobody watched them as is evidenced
by this
bizarre e-mail that he fired off the morning after
the event.
After
recieving this e-mail, I thanked Graham again and
told him it was just a little film night, not the
Cannes Film Festival. Considering his e-mail and the
fact that everyone at the film night complained about
'that arsehole in the camaflouge cargo pants', I decided
to stop communicating with him.
In
retrospect, I should have stuck to my original plan.
About
a week after the film night outburst, people in London
started to tell me that Graham was telling everyone
that when he had met Sizzla in Judgement Yard a few
months earlier ( I had actually introduced him to
the DJ), that 'the Bobo Rasta's all had M-16's and
were firing them off in celebration when Sizzla showed
up!"
Since
I happened to be the one who introduced him to the
DJ, I subsequently published
a parody of Graham's original article
which he had posted on his lame website. (see : http://www.ammocity.com/artman/publish/article_152.shtml
...its so bad its good).
Of
course, this offended Graham who began to manaufacture
material about me and the experience on his website.
He continued like this for weeks, blaming me for the
mocking responses to his story that were posted on
his message board on and on mine.
One
day after he called me to threaten me that he would
'contact my IP for message board abuse', I told him
to stay out of my way because if I saw him in Kingston
I would probably punch him in his big sunburned nose.
Being
ever paranoid about the violence in the country, Graham
overdid it again and began to tell people that I was
threatening him and his family. When I warned him
to stop calling up my name, Graham repeatedly contacted
the Jamaican police who eventually showed up at my
apartment in Kingston and seized my computer and cellphone
to investigate Graham's allegations.
In
two days they returned the equipment and no charges
were laid.
After
he was subsequently arrested by the police under complaint
of his former host out in Portland, Graham was released
and skipped town with his family without even paying
the rent that was due to the German hotelier who he
had been sponging off for months.
Since
then, Graham has found a new hustle in the form of
an annual seminar called Handheld Learning (http://www.handheldlearning.co.uk)
which is supposedly about educating people with I-phone's
and Blackberries. Ironic when you consider that the
man never graduated high school and likes to tell
people that he used to 'drop acid with Steve Jobs'
and that he 'invented the CD -ROM.'
Unfortunatly
(for him), Graham has never recovered his hurt pride
from the Jamaica chapter in his life ,and so, ever
since fleeing the island in 2004, he has tried every
means possible to insult Jamaica and defame Jamaicans
at every opportunity.
He
calls anyone that publishes my work, telling them
that I am a 'violent Jamaican homophobe' who once
threatened to send people to rape his wife. Of course,
he provides no proof of these claims and is therefore
ignored by 99.9% of the people he contacts ( which
includes the police and just about every media source
he can think of).
For
years we have ignored him too, until recently.
After discovering my name on a advertisement for a
show at a publically funded gallery in Brixton ( Gallery
198 ), Graham had another one of his cowardly episodes
and contacted prominent gay activist Peter Tatchell
(who thinks all Jamaicans are dancehall DJ's who want
to burn all homosexuals in their cars) in an attempt
to brand me as 'a homophobe.'
Being
simple-minded and bitterly hateful of Jamaicans; Graham
had now turned to the most obvious solution he can
think of to garner animosity towards The Afflicted
Yard - homophobia.
The
problem with this assertion, however, is that there
is no evidence to this claim save for a satirical
photograph of Graham that appeared on this website
mocking his convenient, new found gay-activism as
a farce.
And
so, after this recent attack on my reputation the
reputation of Gallery 198 ( a great gallery that has
done meaningful work with black children in Brixton
for years), this page has been posted to warn Jamaicans
everywhere (particularly those in the UK) to beware
of this character.
If you see this Graham Brown-Martin character anywhere,
be VERY mindful of his intentions and be wary of entering
into business transactions with him as he is a dishonest
person with no instititional qualifications whatsoever.
